Westchester County Historical Society

The Reading Room of the Westchester County Historical Society and the Westchester County Archives is open by appointment only one day a week, on Wednesdays, with two sessions: from 9:30am-11:30am and 1:30pm-3:30pm, until further notice.

Appointments may be scheduled by going through the website of the Westchester County Archives:

Information about safety procedures may be found at this link. Patrons are requested to wear facial masks that cover the nose and mouth and must be worn at all times in the building. Please arrive on time, as we cannot extend research sessions due to the new safety procedures. A maximum of 2 patrons at a time will be allowed per session.

Please review the Archives’ Guide to Collections and the Westchester County Historical Society online catalog before your visit, and submit all research requests to the Archives Reference Desk. Also, we encourage you to take photos of materials rather than request photocopies whenever possible.

Exploring the Vibrant History of Westchester County

Stories about the people and events that have shaped the history of Westchester County come alive at the Westchester County Historical Society. Our library, Westchester’s largest collection of local history and genealogy, covers the county’s development from the first Dutch settlers in Yonkers to corporate settlers on the White Plains corridor. The collections are housed in a state-of-the-art temperature- and humidity-controlled facility.
