Description
George Clinton, Governor of the State of New York, wrote this letter to John M. Beeckman of the Albany Committee of Correspondence. He notes that a number of men from the Round Lake area in Saratoga Patent under the leadership of Stephen Hooper were captured in Westchester County while attempting to join the British in New York City, and expresses his disappointment in the inability of the local officials to stop the activities of Loyalists in the area. Governor Clinton indicates his hope that the soon-to-be-formed Commission for Detecting and Defeating Conspiracies will be able to deal with area Loyalists.
