Here, users can find various digitized documents from our collections related to the Revolutionary War in Westchester.
Compiled as we approach the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, these digital resources will be a helpful and exciting platform to those with specific research interests, or those who are simply exploring local history. Manuscript Collection Virtual Archive
The Manuscript Collection contains digitized versions of all primary source and secondary source documents in the WCHS library that pertain to the Revolutionary War, as well as brief descriptions for each item.
The Revolutionary War Soldiers Burial Index
This index contains the names of soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War and are buried in Westchester County. This list was compiled from a variety of sources, including Works Progress Administration records available through the Westchester County Archives digital collections and the work of historian Margaret Roebling Manville in 1966.
The McDonald Interviews
The McDonald Interviews link to WCHS’s digital collection, Experiencing the Neutral Ground of the American Revolution: The McDonald Interviews. Funded in part by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, this digital collection contains more than 250 interviews with residents of Westchester and Bronx counties in New York and Fairfield County in Connecticut. Conducted between 1844 and 1851 by historian John Macdonald, the interviews recall life when this area was the so-called “Neutral Ground” between American and British lines from 1776 to 1783.
Revolutionary War Related Articles from Early Historians
A selection of articles written about the Revolutionary War that appeared in early editions of the WCHS quarterly journal. Published from the 1920s through the 1970s, these articles discuss a range of Revolutionary War era topics – many of which are still part of our historical discussions today.
