Description
Located between the main American lines in northern Westchester County and the British lines in present-day Bronx County, the area around Elmsford suffered much during the Revolutionary War. Mary Schuyler Hamilton (1870-1941), a great-great-granddaughter of Alexander Hamilton, was a teacher who resided in Elmsford. She wrote this two-part article regarding the war and its impact on the community. The articles discuss residents of the area such as the Van Tassel and Storm families, and events such as the capture of British Major John André.
