Description
Major Richard Platt (c.1755-1830) served as an aide-de-camp to Major General Alexander McDougall for most of the Revolutionary War. In 1779 he was in command of American forces along the Hudson River in northwest Westchester County with his headquarters at Peekskill. On February 8, 1779, Major Platt sent these instructions to Colonel Aaron Burr, the future vice president of the United States who commanded the American outpost lines from Tarrytown to the Byram River in central Westchester County. Colonel Burr was to complete the exchange of John Broughton, a prisoner of war, and arrange for letters to be delivered to Oliver DeLancey and a “Mr. Beekman.”
