Description
On September 23, 1780, British Major John André stopped at the Staats Hammond House while traveling southward through Westchester County. His stop here was the last that he made prior to his capture at Tarrytown. Although the Staats Hammond House was still standing when this article was written, it was demolished several years later during the construction of the Saw Mill River Parkway. The house formerly stood where the ramp for exit 26 on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway in Hawthorne is today.
